Being healthy cannot be underestimated. A healthy person is a wealthy person. You can go about your daily activities with easy. Even if you have a health condition , you can still find eating right a good place to start with managing it.
This one packs a punch... i used a whole lemon ... yes with the rind and all well apart from the seeds. If you love being healthy and don't mind the slight astringent feel with slight bitter tangs then this is for you. I used zobo/hibiscus drink with honey to make this. Recently been discovering the wonders of lemon. Apart from being rich in vitamin c.. it is a decent source of potassium and vitamin B6. Apart from putting the common cold at bay... its great for digestion and keeps the body in an alkaline state therefore preventing disease from thriving. I know many people say lemons are acidic but actually do the opposite when they enter the body. It also helps in supressing the appetite. Amazing fruit i must say... ah there are the beauty benefits too.. try taking lemon juice before bed daily and see how clear your skin will start to look. You can even using the essential oil from the rind on your face. But please try and use unwaxed lemons or better still organic ones.
i enjoy writing, what ever suits my fancy. I am a poetry lover, music enthusiast, enjoy travelling, enjoy history, nature lover, cake lover and enjoy good photography and i absolutely love Jesus. so I can guarantee you will hear something about these one way or another.

Coconut chicken and prawns on a bed of salad leaves
Coconut chicken and prawns on a bed of salad leaves with Zobo/hibiscus drink . Healthy eating can be very delicious honestly. Its amazing how the flavours in this recipe combine... so tasty. I have been on an eat clean sort of diet. Its amazing how food tastes without stock cubes... for years been telling people how unhealthy these cubes or stock pots or whatever form they are. Honestly you are better off not eating these excitoxins. Anyway to my recipe very simple
Ingredients
Olive oil
Pink himalyan salt(honestly this salt is packed with flavour) use rock or sea salt if you can't find it.
Garlic
Chicken breasts or diced chicken from any part will do
Handful of Prawns
An onion
1 tsp chilli flakes
Yellow,orange,red peppers
Coconut milk
1tsp Corn flour
Curry powder
Thyme
Add olive oil to pan about 3 tablespoons to heat on medium heat. Then add some of the chopped onion to flavour the oil and add chicken to cook until all done and add all spices
Then add prawns and allow to cook until pink if you are using raw prawns. Add vegetables and fry for another 3-4mins and then add coconut milk about 1 cup and then add corn flour. Keep stiring at intervals so sauce does not stick at the bottom of the pan. Cook for about 5min until sauce has thicken to the consistency of gravy. Serve on a bed of your favourite salad leaves. Enjoy

Yam hearts and liver sauce
Yam a low glyceamic carbohydrate, releasing energy gradually. Liver full of iron and protein. I remember saturday mornings as a child perceiving delicious odours of liver sauce as my mum prepared breakfast. Breakfast was always a must in our home and still is in mine now. My husband and i make sure we eat something very satisfying on weekends. Ah we don't joke with weekend breakfast. During the week its sort of hard to have a proper breakfast together because of that early morning rush. Traditionally as a child we would have fried yam with liver sauce.
However decided to make mine a little healthier using boiled yam. It still tastes great. Very satisfying and it is absolutely delicious. All you need is..
Yam
Onions
Garlic
Hot peppers
Cornflour
Stock cubes(i used chicken, try beef or anyone that suits your taste)
Curry powder
Salt
Water
Sunflower oil
The very first most important step after cutting and cleaning your liver is boiling in water to remove the scum. My mother in her funny accent would always say 'pour the first water away' in her Nigerian bura accent. She said that a meat seller in the market had adviced her to do this. It actually tastes better and cleaner.
Rinse the boiled liver and add sunflower oil and fry for about 2mins. Then add all the fresh ingredients and fry until brown. Add stock cubes ,salt and curry powder to taste.Add about 5 teaspoons of cornflour into a cup of water and pour in to liver. Allow to simmer on low heat for about 20mins. You should allow the sauce reduce into a semi thick sauce.Boil yam which should take about 20mins. For those of you who are not so conversant with yam. It is a root similar to potatoes, cassava and sweet potatoes. So if you can't find yam in your area feel free to substitute with these. Enjoy it.

The Hair Journey 2......
I would really love to know peoples opinion if you have experienced this, it means so much to me so feel free and drop a comment below. The idea is not everybody's hair is suited for certain weather conditions especially when you have permed or relaxed hair. Since living in a colder climate I have discovered my hair was not thriving as much when relaxed, it would get brittle and dry and just break off. Even when I moisturise my hair, by the next day its dry. African afro hair seems to thrive better in humid and warm climates.
So I am also resorting to cutting my hair and growing my hair natural and keeping it that way. I know straight hair is nice and easy to manage but I think afro hair can be too if we spend time knowing our hair. This has been different for me in recent years, am starting to know and understand my hair and know how to treat it right. what oils work well with my hair and how should I care for my hair. Foods we eat play a big role to the strength, shine and beauty in the hair. A diet of vegetables, whole grains, fish and other types of protein ,nuts and fruits will help the hair grow strong.
So today is the big chop and am hoping and praying to nurture my hair back to afro health!
And yes true to my word, I had the big chop and it has been 10 months now and am loving it. I have learnt so much about my hair and I feel so comfortable with my hair. I have type 4c hair, so my hair has little, tight curls and it is dense. I do not think I ever want to get my hair relaxed again.

My 10 months natural hair plus shrinkage lol
My normal routine since my big chop has been, moisturising with water and locking in moisture with Avocado oil,Castor oil, Shea butter and Sesame seed oil and also Glycerine. I have found they work very well for my hair. Castor oil tends to thicken my hair strands, making them stronger, Avocado butter is amazing, its so emollient and makes hair soft and smooth. I also deep condition like every two weeks or before any hair do. my usual treatments are -Avocado and Banana hair treatment or eggs and cider vinegar treatment. They both help to condition your hair and leave it soft. I also use a Shea butter conditioner and sometimes after all the treatment I rinse my hair out with tea such as Black tea for extra strength or Hibiscus tea. Its so important to use as many natural products as possible because many of the man made ones are filled with so many chemicals that are just not healthy for your entire body.
The first few months of my natural hair, I trimmed my hair regularly, cutting off all the weak ends from relaxers.
To protect my hair I try not to do hair styles that put too much strain on my hair strands, like fixing a weavon too often and I noticed with constant brushing of the weavon it weakens your own hair because of the constant pulling and combing. I discovered this new hair style, crocheting. At first I made it with straight hair and because I had to constantly comb, part of my front hair gradually broke off. So I decided to use curly hair so I would not have to do any combing at all and still have the protection I needed during the winter months.
It worked out fine. I usually leave my hair out after a couple of hair styles but I make sure I am daily moisturising with water and sealing with butters. I also either make my hair into twists when I am home or plaits and cover with a silk scarf all day, so my hair does not dry out. I sleep with a silk scarf too and a silk pillow just for extra coverage in case my scarf comes of at night.
Whenever I go out with my natural hair, I make sure it is well moisturised with water and oiled. Try not to leave the hair out for too long, no longer than two weeks in winter so that it does not keep breaking from dehydration or the stress of cold winter months.
Your diet matters too, eat well, drink a lot of water and exercise as much as you can. So there you have it. I will do another update soon.

The desire to fit in......
Career vs Hobby
It is quite frustrating in the sense that when one is passionate about too many things particularly if you love them all, its hard for you to make up your mind to follow a chosen route without thinking you may feel very cheated particularly if the chosen field does not really work out. Many people say follow what you love doing but in the economic climate we live in its quite hard to do such. You sort of want to have something you can fall back onto just in case what you really love doing does not blossom as you expect it to.
There is the constant feeling that you might be famous in that particular hobby you think you are good at, you have received compliments for. but what if you don't become as creative as you like to be, or opportunities do not arise enough to express your desired gift? Should one give up or keep on trying? I look at my peers and feel there is that innate pressure to be successful as soon as possible, quicker than you could say ' dodo'. There is the pressure to meet up to expectations of parents, people around, society, friends and family.
There is also the question of should one follow a vocation or a chosen career. Are you a hands on person or someone who can sit at a desk contently. I know certainly where I fall and it is not at the desk. There is that desire to be one's boss, particularly for those who struggle to handle a 9-5 job, please there is nothing wrong with you. You might be best suited for starting a business of your own and being an entrepreneur.
There other train of thought too is that , is one giving up too soon on a prospective career to follow a much easier route because of all the hard work it would take to build that career. is it out of sheer laziness to develop ones self. It could it be also the frustrations of finding the right job telling on a person, hence making them indecisive?
I guess the answer is to be patient , work hard and trust God to guide one in all ones endeavours. Also to have hope and keep on planting seeds, knowing that one day it will sprout and as you nurture it, it will become a big tree. There is no fast route to success at the end of the day. It is good old rich principles, hard work, education and an endearing spirit.

Bus ride
catch up with my thoughts and plan my day of work
a bumpy ride by an over zealous bus driver crazy on caffeine or just plain wild
a time where I catch a glimpse of the day's news in the paper
a time to chitchat and catch up with old friends you happen to meet on the bus just hope there isn't an awkward silence or avoid someone you don't like
where you wish the person seating next to you would only turn down their music but you are too polite to say and suffer in silence
Bus ride a time for goodbye's to friends until you see tomorrow at school
a quiet moment to yourself and see local sights
a time to be kind to the person who hasn't got enough money to get on the bus or change to pay for the bus fare.
To be kind to an old stranger and offer you seat or kind to yourself because you back and feet are aching from a days hard work.

What defines me.....
First of all what we do as means of work, so your career, vocation or job. we have created jobs that are more prestigious than others, take for example Doctor sounds much better than home maker. we place so much emphasis on what we do for a living, please don't get me wrong, its very important because it involves to a greater extent some things that you enjoy doing and also source of income, but when it comes to it and that job goes and you have to stick with a less prestigious one how would you feel, just for a while. when you meet up with friends, family or past colleagues and they ask what do you do? what is your reaction?
Titles, I know that from where I come from it is such a big thing! One must be known as Doctor, Mrs, archbishop, reverend, chief, senior pastor yangayanga! we place so much values on them, sometimes use them to intimidate others, your title is not just for the sake of it, it serves a purpose, you were bestowed with it for a reason.
The Family I come from, are you proud of yourself knowing that your family is well to do, rich, parents are hip and go with the trend, or are you happy with your family members be it whether they have different characters that may not even suit societies idea of how people ought to be in terms of being trendy, posh etc
what you earn, would it make any difference to who was your friend, who you hang out with depending on what you earn or not. Remember we are to condescend to men of low estate. Christ did that, did not esteem His riches and the position he had for anything, but laid it all down so that he might save us all. I know money is a big thing these days and usually the more you have of it the more you can buy and many people may feel the more happy you are but better is a house where bitter herbs are eaten and it is full of joy and happiness, than a house full of sweet bread where there is sorrow and anguish.
Your possessions, am I married or not, do I have children or not, have I got a house I own or not, do I have a house in the village or not, do I own a car or not, do I have a masters or not, a Phd or not, do I have the latest phone, weave( brazillian, peruvian , the list goes on lol ) . I just remembered what Paul wrote i have learned in whatsoever condition I am in to be content, I have learned to abound and to be abased basically to be rich and to be poor. Just remember this that God will supply all that you need according to his riches in glory, I am not saying that meaning you should claim everything that comes your way but that the things that you truly desire and need God is ever ready to supply, that which will bring you joy and increase and also glorify His name.
The way I look, am I beautiful or ugly ( in your mind, because everyone is beautiful), I believe the world has actually defined what beauty is and when you discover that the way you look does not fall into that criteria , how do you feel? Thank God for it anyway, I know its easier said than done but loving yourself for who God made you to be is so important, being honest it takes a lot of stress from your life. Instead of struggling to be a skinny size 8 which might suit others, stay the size 12 that you are, you are still healthy and being curvy might suit you better. we are so obsessed with looks in the world, I know times when I have been to certain places say like a salon and I know I was well dressed but because of the image that the hairdressers in this particular salon had created about customers I was not treated as best as could.
what should define us as believers should be who we are in Christ. we are over-comers, head and not the tail. There are more weighty matters in life than certain things, understanding our priorities will really help us. The fact that I wear designer clothes, should that make anyone less important than I am. There is a value that God has placed on each and everyone's life, we should all appreciate one another for where they come from, the experiences they have gone through and not put everyone in the same bottle.
what actually defines us should be the way we live our lives and for whom we live our lives, our character, the way we think of others, the way we treat others, how we love and respect others. You find that when you don't have certain things your perspective of the world changes and you tend to value those things when you have them. That's why a season of trials is necessary so that the gold nature of God will be brought forth in us.Trying times come to allow us see who we really are, if we don't like what we see or what we see does not line up with his will about us then we cry out to God to change us. God wants the fruit of the spirit to be born or birthed in each and every believer, love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith and meekness. These are the things that should define me. I believe these are things we learn through life, not just at one good, so its not a one of lessons and we are sorted. the lesson keeps popping up until we have learnt but also to remind us when we have forgotten. Just bear in mind that I am in no way implying we should not look good, be irresponsible or untrue to ourselves but that the meaning of who we are be well understood then everything will be in God's perspective.

The Journey to Slim world... a destination or drive through
i have been a size 14 or so most of my life and i have been very comfortable with that, i actually never really paid attention to it until i started wearing a size sixteen, i think that was when the alarm bells started ringing and it just went down hill after that. i have tried different diets, the G.I diet, the eat all you want but under a certain number of calories diet, the don't eat after 7 o'clock diet, and the i will start my diet tomorrow diet plan lol which is always bound to fail lol. We all need that ounce of determination, when there is a goal to be achieved but the main problem is the stumbling blocks that come along the way to hinder, like the chocolate bar hiding at the most convenient place when you are you weakest. Will we rise up to the challenge or break under the heavy weight? I have found I keep failing to achieve my desire goal alone unless I have someone keeping a watchful eye over my diet plans.
Now I am not giving excuses for being over-weight or piling on the pounds but serious the media has got their fair share of blame in all these. if we put out of our minds the perfect figure eight, model like girls we see in magazines and on tv ads and movies, then I think we might have more realistic goals. How about first of all trying to be healthy and eat right, sleep well and have a good amount of exercise. Drink a lot of water, fruit teas( the list is endless, I have a fond love for these), plenty fruit and vegetables and all the regular stuffs. I think the less we focus on I must look like this to be happy the better for us all as men and women.
Another concern is how much importance we put on what tastes good to our mouths and creates a gymnasium of activities on our palate than what actually is good for our bodies. I kind of shudder a bit understanding some of the side effects to some of the methods of slimming. I see many people on so called low fat but high in sugar or fat free and full of sweeteners Being honest I am a bit weary of the effects that sweeteners have on the body.
